In what seems to be the ushering-in of a new era, vegan and plant-based options are not only replacing meat in some of the most popular fast-food chains in America and Canada but also getting items made using them featured in the regular menus.
California-based Beyond Meat was recently in the news for launching the all-new vegan chicken nuggets at 1000 A&W locations across Canada in what can only be described as a revolutionary move in vegan snacking.
Since 2018, when Beyond Meat first launched its plant-based patty in Canada, Beyond Meat and A&W have enjoyed a profitable partnership. This has also led to A&W adding two breakfast sandwiches made with Beyond Meat sausages to its national menu.
In 2019, Beyond Meat entered the Canadian retail market by making their most popular offering, the Beyond Burger™, available in Walmart and more than 3000 Canadian grocery stores.
The Beyond Burger was a hit as the plant-based patty packs a respectable 20g of protein with significantly less saturated and total fat than the traditional beef burger.
The patty is also better for the environment than the traditional beef patty—according to Beyond Meat, creating a Beyond Burger uses 99% less water, 93% less land, and 46% less energy than producing a beef patty.
This was a blessing for Canadians as according to the 2019 Canada Food Guide, Canadians were encouraged to emphasize plant-based protein in a need to diversify their protein sources.
“We are about accessibility and meeting people where they’re at in their journey—whether you’re a hardcore carnivore or a strict vegan, you should be able to have our burgers, enjoy what you’re eating, and feel great afterward,” says Beyond Meat Founder and CEO Ethan Brown.
Before Beyond Meat’s highly anticipated chicken nuggets were launched in Canada, they launched Beyond Chicken Tenders across 400 restaurants in North America.
A great alternative for the health-conscious, the new breaded vegan chicken tenders are 100% cruelty-free Made out of peas and fava beans, the tenders contain about 40% less saturated fat than the chicken tenders of most other leading brands and are free from cholesterol, hormones, and antibiotics.
For those of us who are tracking the progress of plant-based meat alternatives, Beyond Meat has also partnered with McDonald’s and Yum! Brands including KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. The latest Beyond Meat fast food news is that they’re the official suppliers of the “hamburger” patties for McDonald’s plant-based burger, the McPlant, which is being tested in Sweden and Denmark with more markets to follow.
With every single plant-based burger, nugget, or tender, an innocent life is saved, a lot of water is conserved and you go to bed with a clear conscience and a healthier body. Change is happening, and it’s green and free of cruelty!
